We like devices such as the M3 Perfect for loading DS Roms and homebrew projects, but you can't really save data from actual DS games you might own. GameTech's upcoming USB dongle lets you upload game save files to your computer and use them as your please. Insert your DS cart into the dongle, the dongle into a USB port, and you can transfer away. Seems good if your cart has a faulty EEPROM or you want to share your game save with someone else. No word on pricing, but its coming out August 31 and something tells me its exclusive to Japan. [GameBrink]

Those looking to be a little more selective in the Nintendo DS-related media they transfer to and from their PC will soon have a new option from GameTech, which is set to release the above hardware/software combo in Japan on August 31st. While there unfortunately doesn't appear to be much more info than what you see on the box, the system seems to be straightforward enough, consisting a USB stick-sized device that'll accommodate your DS cart and some software (Windows only) that'll help you backup and manage your save game files. Of course, we're sure there's plenty of folks that'll find more uses for the thing than just save games, although it doesn't seem like GameTech's willing to help you in that department.

Remember that Crimson & Black Nintendo DS Lite that was supposed to be packaged with Brain Age 2? Well they actually went through with it and Gamepro got their hands on one for an unboxing session.galleryPost('crimsonDS', 4, 'Black & Crimson');[Gamepro via Kotaku]

The Magnum Chrome DS case is a mod for your Nintendo DS. Completely replacing the outer shell of your portable, the Magnum is actually covered in chrome, not some spray-on finish. This means your DS will be tougher and more resistant to those smudges that make us feel like pigs every time we just want to play some Mario Kart.
Installation is supposed to be reasonably easy, but since this mod only replaces the outer shell, you'll need to buy an inner shell for full transformation. And with each case approaching $40, you could quickly find yourself in new DS territory (just wash your hands before playing this time). [product via techiediva]

Recall that motion-sensing patent from the Big N just, oh, two days ago? Turns out that may have a thing or two to do with the recent slide controller accessory unveiled for the Japanese market. Bundled in with the game Slide Adventure: Mag Kid, the device plugs directly into the GBA cartridge slot of the DS / DS Lite and essentially allows you to set the handheld on a flat surface and slide around 'til your heart's content. Unfortunately, there's no dirt on whether or not this peripheral will ever be released outside of Japan (sound familiar?), but for those making their home in Tokyo, you can become the envy of us all by picking the bundle up for ¥5,800 ($49). Click on for some closer shots of the slide controller itself, and check out a videoed demonstration here.

A new Japanese import for the Nintendo DS, Slide Adventure: Mag Kid, comes with a never-before-seen peripheral called the Slide Controller—converting the DS into a sort of optical mouse.

Interfacing through the large, generally unused GBA port, the Slide Controller allows you to move the DS around on a flat surface, just like a mouse. The game then registers the controls and responds accordingly (it has something to do with robots, magnetism, and we're sure, the end of the world).
We're excited about the peripheral for other prospects—like the simulation of a magnifying glass or—we're actually out of ideas. Still, adding a screen to a mouse with 1:1 controls is brilliant. But adding a mouse to a screen of the DS could be genius...assuming there are at least a couple of decent titles.

Remember Arkanoid in the arcades and its weird paddle/knob controller you twisted to make the stick move around? Famitsu's revealing a Nintendo DS attachment for the game with a GBA Slot attachment that actually replicates the knobbiness of the original! The attachment will come in various Japanese DS colors, and will be available for an unspecified amount of yen. [Neogaf via DS Fanboy via Technabob]
